Shanghai Steel Tube Industry Association (abbreviated as SSTA) was established in April 2000 with Baosteel as its founding president, specifically through Baosteel Group's Steel Pipe & Bar Business Unit. The Association is a non-profit industry organization approved by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization and registered with the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs. It consists of steel tube enterprises and social groups from Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang province, who have voluntarily united with a shared vision. The Association is an independent social corporate body. Member companies produce a wide range of products, including seamless tubes (hot-rolled, cold-drawn, cold-rolled), welded tubes (straight seam, spiral welded), composite pipes, and cold-formed steel sections, fin tubes with materials covering both ferrous and stainless steel categories. The membership also includes manufacturers of steel tube equipment, logistics service providers, information industry service providers, and trade businesses within the steel tube industry supply chain.
The mission of the Association is to comply with national laws, regulations, and policies, uphold social morals, focus on providing services, safeguard the common interests of the industry, facilitate communication between members, government, and society, and promote economic development within the industry. The guiding principle of the Association is to stay synchronized with the market, serve as an advisor and assistant; align with enterprises to provide professional services; work alongside the industry to promote standardized development. The service philosophy is: the government's needs are the tasks of the Association; member demands are its pursuits. By emphasizing quality, integrity, capability, and effectiveness, the Association aims to offer credible, reliable, practical, and efficient services to both the government and steel tube enterprises.
In recent years, due to its relentless efforts in maintaining industrial security, providing fair trade opportunities for steel tube enterprises, and expanding domestic and international markets, the Association has been designated by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China as a Fair Trade Ground Unit and has been awarded the status of Import and Export Fair Trade Industry Workstation by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
In the context of a new economic normal, the Association is committed to helping member units in "cost reduction and efficiency enhancement" and "transformational development". It explores how the traditional steel tube manufacturing industry can embrace the Internet+, assists member enterprises in benefitting from significant infrastructure projects in "Belt and Road" countries, and takes full advantage of its role as a liaison between government and enterprises. The Association organizes and recommends members to participate in major project tenders, actively involves them in anti-dumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) cases, vigorously promotes member products, assists in business development, and protects the collective interests of all members. The Association firmly believes that in the current era of industry-wide overcapacity, an industry association plays an irreplaceable role that other organizations and institutions cannot substitute. The Association advocates for unity and collective development among member enterprises, discourages malicious competition, enhances product competitiveness, and builds a regional competitive advantage for the industry!
